What if I filed months ago and the IRS tracker keeps saying “in process?” It can be frustrating if your return from the IRS is taking longer than usual to arrive, so we looked into what the hold-up might be.
Unfortunately, the IRS is short-staffed and very backed up with issuing refunds. Currently, the IRS is still handling 35 million un-processed tax returns. The “in-process” message means the IRS has received the return and is working on issuing the refund. Don’t get concerned that they may be missing information just yet! If they needed additional information to complete the return, the IRS tracker would specify that along with a contact and reference number. So if your tracker says “in process,” sit tight! Your return is being processed.
You can track your return online by logging onto www.irs.gov, click on “get my refund status” and enter your SSN, filing status & requested refund amount.
